Brainy???

June 20, 2011

I don’t recall seeing as many of these kind of results when looking for quotes in the not-to-distant past.

I realize that the database is growing, but when I search for quotes on certain subjects, I really don’t care what some actor has to say about it.

This is a quote from the “Submit Quote” page of brainyquote.com:

BrainyQuote is interested in quotes by famous people and public figures – those who are in the news, and often the subjects of current interviews and news stories. We do not accept quotations from people, animals or other fictional characters from books, television shows, movies, cartoons, or the like. Quotes must be from famous people; if you are not famous, you will not be quoted.

Quotable people are newsmakers – people that make headlines by their actions or who are headliners or special guests on major network news programs. People such as Colin Powell, Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel – who hold high-ranking public office – generals, mayors, governors, senators, CEOs, heads of major organizations, or famous names of people in the news, like celebrities, musicians, actors or sports stars.

OK, fair enough.  However…

There is a thing these days.  A failure to recognize when a person has the cred to be taken seriously.  Haley Joel Osment is probably a great source for a quote about child actors and acting.  For a broad search of quotes using keyword “unknown,” I don’t expect to see him all the way up on the third page of results (Kathy Lee Gifford is not just on the first page of results, she’s the third damn quote).

I really need a filter that will remove all celebrities from the results.  My weirdo neighbor and my insane friend, Balls, produce much more entertaining quotes and are as much experts on life as any fucking celebrity.
