Windy City

Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leavesWe have had our summer eveningsnow for October eves!

Humbert Wolfe

Wednesday night was the first time it truly felt like Fall to me.  All the lazy warmness and colored foliage was just Indian Summer on the plains.  Fall is really pre-winter.  It’s a warning.

The night air was not unpleasant, but you felt it when the wind blew.  The leaves were yammering dire warnings.  An unsettling harpies’ harmony.

There is little other noise, even in the city, as people have finally decided that it was no longer time to frolic outside and leech the last boons of Summer.

The dark comes much more quickly now.  It brings a heightened awareness.

Change.  Retrospection.  Something niggling at you that you can’t quite grasp hold of.  The wind’s chorus beckons you to mourn with it.

Winter is coming.

The Lord of Seasons brings His crystalline peace.  To hush you and cover you and put you to sleep.
